Chandrayaan – India goes to the moon!

I am elated, excited, glad and exuberant!

As India starts its countdown for its moon mission ‘Chandrayaan-I‘ I can’t help remember the song “Chhodo kal ki baaten, kal ki baat purani” from the film “Hum Hindustani” released in 1960.

Chandryaan, which comes from the Hindi words Chandra meaning the “moon” and yaan meaning “vehicle” is to be launched on Wednesday, 22nd October at 0050 GMT from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota.

The flight to the moon shall take 5 days, with the objective of creating a 3D atlas of near and far side of the moon. It shall also do chemical and mineralogical mapping of the surface for different minerals and metals.

Its imagery is also expected to be used by NASA for setting up their Moonbase in future. Built at a cost of US$76 million, the mission includes five ISRO payloads and six payloads from other international space agencies such as NASA and ESA, and the Bulgarian Aerospace Agency.

Wednesday would be a day for us to be proud of ISRO, it shall also be the day when we shall be witnessing an story worth telling for years to come.

Naya daur likhenge milkar nayi kahani…

Spidey is Back

Okay so here goes, I managed to book the first-day-first-show ticket for Spiderman 3, and it turned out to be a bit disappointing for me. The jam packed Multiplex with people whisteling at the entry of Toby McGuire and Kristen Dunst, it felt that it shall be an awesome experience, with die-hard Spidey fans all around.

However, the movie turned out to be just okay(I am sure plenty would differ from my opinion). It was a bit long, with too many villians and a story focusing so much on relationships, Peter’s character, and his love life. I was really expecting a lot of action, which unfortunately was reserved till the end of the movie.

You can seen alien material, new Goblin(thts Harry Osborne), Sandman and Venom as the main negative characters. The SFX are really good, and live up to the name, but I still don’t get it, did they really have a $200 million budget on this one!

Dostpost – What's your dream?

Yesterday, I had this wonderful opportunity to have a talk with David Gardner of Dostpost.com, it was a part of my field assignments for MBA.

I was amazed to notice the risk that David took by leaving, professional Basketball to come to India and start Dostpost with a couple of his friends from Dartmouth College (that reminds of about Thomas Kurtz and George Kemeny!).

Coming back to Dostpost, the first assumption(not impression) I had was that it shall be just another Social networking website, but it wasn’t just so. Its an attempt to provide a platform for individuals to express their dreams, collaborate with people with similar aim, and work towards turning it to a reality.

I can already notice a lot of activity going on in it, with people wishing to be an MBA and others trying to help on various areas of preparation. There is more to Dostpost than just the Dreams, there is a whole section on Projects where people can collaborate on academic projects together, there is a section on Scholarships on offer, and you can upload videos.

Being a techie, I can only fathom the amount of effort which would have gone to develop Dostpost from scratch! It must be having one hell off a data model to work with(social networking framework is very tough, see this!)

Hats off to the Dostpost team for really believing in their dream, and giving us an opportunity to push ours!
