Throwing shoes…the be-coming of the Indian electorate!

It all began when one Iraqi gentleman threw his shoes at Dubya back in 2008. While those shoes went on to become best sellers and a fashion fad elsewhere, we at India learnt the new art of shoe throwing!

The past few weeks have resulted in atleast 3 incidents of shoe throwing at various politicians across the country on issues ranging from corruption, communism to just plain anger. While this trend has resulted in some politicians signing out of the election nominations to restriction on wearing shoes in press conferences.

On the other front certain places have also witnessed public turning violently against the certain candidates holding rallies during their campaigns. Is the the beginning of regular Indians showing their exasperation against lack of governance and utter apathy of the sitting MPs who failed to deliver the goods? Is this the end of us being mere sitting ducks?

By the way, are you voting this year? I am.

Chandrayaan – India goes to the moon!

I am elated, excited, glad and exuberant!

As India starts its countdown for its moon mission ‘Chandrayaan-I‘ I can’t help remember the song “Chhodo kal ki baaten, kal ki baat purani” from the film “Hum Hindustani” released in 1960.

Chandryaan, which comes from the Hindi words Chandra meaning the “moon” and yaan meaning “vehicle” is to be launched on Wednesday, 22nd October at 0050 GMT from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota.

The flight to the moon shall take 5 days, with the objective of creating a 3D atlas of near and far side of the moon. It shall also do chemical and mineralogical mapping of the surface for different minerals and metals.

Its imagery is also expected to be used by NASA for setting up their Moonbase in future. Built at a cost of US$76 million, the mission includes five ISRO payloads and six payloads from other international space agencies such as NASA and ESA, and the Bulgarian Aerospace Agency.

Wednesday would be a day for us to be proud of ISRO, it shall also be the day when we shall be witnessing an story worth telling for years to come.

Naya daur likhenge milkar nayi kahani…

Diwali Break – Choti Diwali

Another busy day, most of it went in shopping and bank related jobs. I still managed to take a few snaps of the festivities en mi casa.

It was really fun to be back in the diwali market rush and haggle for clay diyas, electric lamps, or kitchen utensils. Trust me, this is the real festival, the rush and the pavement shopping has no match in the malls of today. I did manage to get a good deal on electric lights and shall have my setup ready tomorrow morning.

I also spent a bit of time on clicking pictures of the drawing room with its dim lights, and one of them is a pretty decent snap…

Our drawing room!

I also hope to make my first rangoli tomorrow morning, hope that mom helps me with that…

Happy Diwali

Hasta la vista

Chak De India

Yups, I did manage to find some time out for a movie, and it was the new SRK starrer ‘Chak De India’. Getting on the final feel of it, i actually liked the movie, and would suggest people to go for it.

Now to the movie, first of all…its a movie without any song and dance sequence, no heroine per se, and just one person SRK who gets the maximum airtime.

It shows all aspects of team formation, norming and performing based on the true story of a previous indian hockey player Negi’s life. Do not compare it with Lagaan in terms of role play, but it surely has its own share of magic moments. The second half of the movie focuses on the Women’s Hockey team’s participation in the Hockey World Cup. It has been shot very well, with the audience and the gameplay seeming very very authentic.

At times I did get a feeling that they may have been inspired by ‘Remember the Titans’, but it is definitely not a rip-off. I returned home with a feel good feeling where the underdog beats the champion….and for a change it was India in sports winning!

On a serious note, I realised that I didnt even know simple hockey rules, and maybe this movie shall evoke some interest in the official National Sport of India.
